One of our accountants takes part in the Great North Run
19 September 2017
Here at Park Accounts we like to do our bit for charity, one of our Accountants, Barbara took part in the Great North Run to raise money for the NSPCC. Here is her account of the event:
“In May 2016, I contracted meningitis. Luckily, it was caught in its early stages and, following a stay in hospital, I made a good recovery but one of the lasting effects is poor circulation and numbness in my feet. I decided I would celebrate the fact I didn’t lose any toes to the illness by doing the Great North Run and I was lucky enough to secure a charity place with the NSPCC.
I am not a runner and the training took me miles out of my comfort zone but on Sunday, September 10th 2017, I felt strong and ran my own race, digging deep between miles 10 and 12 when the course was all uphill. I was determined not to let my friends and colleagues down as I knew they were all wishing me well and, with their support, I had raised over £1500 for the charity.
I crossed the finish line in 2 hours and 31 minutes…it was so emotional, I burst into tears.
With patience, determination and a positive attitude, we can achieve so much.”
